What Happen? On the treadmill I go!

We had some friends over a couple of weekends ago
we took a couple of pictures.

Later, I saw this picture of me...

(that's me in the blue and my beautiful friend Donna)

I knew the pants were getting a little tight.
But I hadn't realized how much weight I've gained.

The biggest reason for the weight gain is that I stopped smoking this last October.
But I didn't think it was that much!!!

So I'm getting my butt on the treadmill!
I'm starting Couch to 5K today.
I've started this program a couple times before, but never finished it.

So, here's me putting it all out there...
starting weight today 176.

Ouch.

Last time I weighed myself, I was about 155.

I could say it's all muscle, right?

HAHAHA!! Not this time!
I've been eating everything, no will power at all.
Time to get back on track with eating right and working out.

Here's my plan to lose the weight..

Drink lots of water
Make better food choices...more chicken and fish. Less bread and cookies.
Run the full Couch to 5K program
Do the push-up app on my phone
Les Mills MMA workout video (bought it forever ago - loved it - didn't finish it)

Here's to Day One!
Wish me luck!

the voice in your head that says you can't do this is a liar.

  1. Sounds like you have a great plan in place, nothing extreme. You look great but I know that we see our own flaws more than other people notice them :) I love the quote at the end of your post as well!

  2. Hi Sam, You are very brave to share such a personal story. Big hugs and tons of support across the blogesphere to you! You CAN do it. You ARE beautiful. Take it slow and make changes that will stick. And think about giving up sugar. It's pure evil. Please keep us posted with your progress, we'll all be cheering for you. Hugs, Holly

  5. Hi Sam! You are a smart lady to quit smoking! All it took for me to realize I needed to get serious with my exercise-eating habits was a photo of myself! If you can find the book by Jackie Warner, This is Why You're Fat (And How to Get Thin Forever) please check it out! She covers everything! I am having the best success with eating healthier and losing fat, and exercising right! Thanks for sharing! Blessings from Bama!

  7. Great plan, good luck! Getting healthy will be worth it :) Something that works really well for me is avoiding late night snacking. I brush my teeth right after dinner and make a goal to not eat anything until breakfast. First few nights were rough, but I think snacking was more of a habit for me, than actually being hungry. You can do it!

    1. Late night snacking is the WORST for me. That's what really gets me. Gread idea about brushing your teeth!

  8. Sam,

You've already proven you're a disciplined lady by giving up smoking and not looking back ... many people would say the "solution" to their weight gain was to start smoking again, but not you. Yay! There's so many dietary approaches (I don't like the word "diet") and just as many exercise programs ... the key is to find one that you enjoy, or at least don't detest, so that you can keep with it. And if there's a bad day along the way, begin again the next day ... the real problem is getting upset about one bad day and allowing it to become a bad six months! 10 years ago the South Beach dietary plan worked for both my husband and myself and we still adhere to the principles today; the first two weeks were frustrating trying to learn new recipes and find food items in the stores, but after that we had no desire for any of the foods we cut out. We haven't snacked since following this approach because quite honestly we're too full to have rooms for snacks :) Good luck! {I do have some recipes on my blog if you've looking for ideas} Robin

    1. Robin - I hate diets too! I've never been on one before - always sounded too restricting...and I'm a super picky eater.

10 years!? That's amazing! I'm going to stop by and get some of those recipes. Thanks!
