6 Fun Valentines Day Crafts For Boys

 

Valentines Day is right around the corner! And if you have a house full of boys like I do, you know that making them sit down long enough to finish a fun craft can sometimes be difficult!!

 

I've compiled a list that I know my boys will love and I'm hoping yours will too!

Kool-Aid Printable Tag - Printables make such an easy craft for boys. Cutting out the takes is great hand-eye coordination practice as well as trying the ribbons. That makes this craft perfect for boys of all ages. And, it takes just enough time that they shouldn't be the least bit bored before it's over with!

Yoda Best Valentine - Again with the printables! And my boys are crazy about Star Wars...and glow sticks....so this is perfect for them! Another great way for boys to practice their cutting skills along with writing. And...it's super adorable!!

Layered M&Ms in a Jar - Such a simple idea, layering colors of M&Ms in a jar!  Have your boys separate out all of the M&Ms by color and then carefully layer them in the jar. You can add that as a bonus, they'll be able to eat some of them too! I think eating M&Ms is something every boy would help out with!!

I'm Crazy in Love With You - I'm crazy in love with these drawings!! This is a great messy activity for boys!! Just make sure and cover your table first to save yourself from too much clean-up afterwards!

 

Soap Bubble Art - This is a Valentines Day art project that is perfect for any boy! They get to create something fun and pretty as a Valentines Day gift for someone special and they get to make a mess doing it!

 

 

Conversation Heart Picture Frame - This goes along with the M&Ms mason jar craft, they boys will have a fun time painting the frames and gluing the candies down -- and I'm sure they'll sneak a few too!

 

 

 

Valentines Day with Boys

Last night, we finally sat down with our third grader and started to get his Valentines Day stuff together. You know...mailbox thing and the little Valentines Day card.

I was so excited.

I had pinned a few ideas for mailboxes for him. I had all the supplies needed to make any kind of box he wanted. My creative juices were flowing.

But I forgot "the game" was on.

Dammit.

What I thought in my head would be like when I was little...sitting at the table with my mom, finding the perfect valentine to give to each classmate. I remember picking out the lovey-dovey ones to give to the boys that I liked and making sure the perfect matches were made for my friends. The mailbox was a big deal too. My dad would get involved in the planning and it always ended up being something way beyond my creative mind at the time. (thanks mom and dad)

I loved Valentines Day class parties. My mom would always get heart shaped cookies and have each kids name wrote on these huge cookies.

I have really fond memories of the Valentines Days for my childhood.

But maybe Valentines Day is just a girl thing....

Because my son was not interested. At all.

KU was playing and they've been on a three game losing streak and were playing K-State and it was all a very big deal.

Don't get me wrong...I love KU Basketball as much as the next person. But it was time to get into Valentines Day mode.

I could barely make him pay attention enough to write him name. Let alone look over everything I pinned for him.

I was excited for my son to be able to pick out the perfect Valentine for the girl in his class that he's got a crush on. But...nope...they don't even write names on them anymore! Just who the card is from. Teachers said it takes too long the other way.

This makes me a little sad.

---Yes, I know, I'm making this all about me.---

But all was not lost. He finished writing his Valentines and ended up with a pretty cool looking mail box after all.

Of course, his box is all about basketball...but I loved that he loves it. 

My big surprise of the night? 

No, not that K-State lost....that was a given.

It was that my son asked if he could get his friend, Maddy, a flower for Valentines Day.

Melt My Heart!

He might be a romantic after all!

As long as no basketball games are playing.

Valentines Garland - Under $2.00!

We took our Christmas decorations down the first weekend if January. Ever since, I've thought the house just looked so bare. It needed something!

Today, I went cruising through Michael's and saw the cutest fabric garland...all in Valentines Day colors. I just about threw it in my cart, when I saw the price...$14.99. My husband would have probably killed me for spending that much on tied ribbon and fabric.

The thought hit me that maybe...just maybe I could make my own garland, and save a ton of money.

That's exactly what I did....and I only spent $1.66 to make it!

I bought four sheets of felt ($0.29 each) and found some clearance ribbon ($0.50), I already knew that I had some twine at home and some scrap fabric to use.

Here's how I got started...

I started cutting the felt into strips (cut the short way.)

You stretch the strips and then cut them in half.

And you start to tie each piece, leaving just a small amount of space between each one. 

I didn't make a pattern, just went with which every color I grabbed and occasionally, I'd throw in my ribbon of some of the scrap fabric I had. 

I used twine as my center, but if you had some leftover thin ribbon, that would work too. 

I will say that this took awhile to do, around a half hour. But, my hubby helped cut and stretch the strips and we had a good reason to do nothing but sit at the kitchen table and watch some TV together. 

I really love the way it turned out!

I cut some hearts out of construction paper and taped them to the mirror...Valentines Day decorations!

I also have a photo session with a new baby this week, so I'm thinking of a way to work the garland into the picture.

You could make a garland for every holiday....March would be different shades of green, July would be red, white and blue...and so one.

Why I Love Pottery Barn Kids

I know I'm way behind the game here - but I've only recently discovered the beauty of Pottery Barn Kids. I love to go in that store and browse around and touch everything. This is seriously some of the cutest stuff. Ever. My kids love going there too, I know they are imaging what they'd like their rooms to look like!

Here are some freaking adorable things I found on my trip today:

Bathroom supplies. I love these!!! These will go on my 'create' list for sure! I'm thinking some el-cheapo bathroom containers and a cricket!

These felt envelopes are too cute! I can imagine putting little treats each day for the boys to discover.

(See the plates on the table??? I bought Ashton and Colton each a plate for Valentines Day - I couldn't resist how cute they were!) Again...going on my create list!

I love the look of these valentines! The teachers badge is too adorable. Pottery Barn Kids had a really cute selection of vintage-looking valentines.

Love this mobile. It's made out of paper, so I think would be super easy to recreate!

I love anything Dr Seuss!! I'm not having any more kids - but I would have LOVE to had run into this a few years ago!!! I would sleep on those sheets!

Since I discovered Pottery Barn Kids, I'm in there at least once a week. Seriously. It's become a problem. I just can't get over how cute everything is!
